**OGDEN, UTAH** — Erika Carr, a 30-year-old single mother from Ogden, Utah, has been given a heartbreaking prognosis.
After a two-year battle with Stage 4 Small Cell Lung Cancer, doctors recently informed her that she has only three months to live.
Carr has made the decision to discontinue treatment and spend her remaining time with her two children, Jeremiah, 7, and Aaliyah, 5, who she describes as her “whole life, light, and soul.”
Carr’s journey began on May 7, 2022, when she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer known as Small Cell Lung Carcinoma, just one day before Mother’s Day.
Doctors warned her of the difficult road ahead, and she has fought bravely for more than two years.
During her battle, there were brief moments of hope when positive scans allowed her to pause treatment, but the relief was short-lived.
In January 2024, Carr developed Cushing’s Syndrome, a hormonal disorder caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of cortisol.
The syndrome brought numerous complications, including rapid weight gain, muscle and bone deterioration, high blood pressure, and Type 2 diabetes.
Despite restarting cancer treatment, Carr’s health declined further, and in September 2024, doctors gave her the devastating news that she had only three months to live.
In a deeply emotional decision, Carr has chosen to focus on creating lasting memories with her children instead of continuing her medical treatments.
Faced with planning her own funeral, she set up a GoFundMe page with the humble goal of raising $5,000 to cover funeral costs and hopefully leave something behind for her children.
What started as a modest request turned into an overwhelming outpouring of support.
As of now, more than 26,000 people have donated to Carr’s cause, raising over $750,000.
Carr has since set up a trust fund to ensure her children are cared for after she is gone.
“I’m in shock,” Carr told ABC4. “I never expected this. I thought I’d have a small service, but the way people have reached out, I’m just so grateful for everyone who’s been there.”
Carr’s story has touched people across the country, inspiring thousands to donate and support her during this difficult time.
As she spends her final months cherishing every moment with her kids, the generosity of strangers has provided her peace of mind, knowing her children will be taken care of.
